Manitobans need good roads to connect to and through their communities, and to ensure the economy grows. That’s the message of a series of MHCA ads on radio, social media and billboards for the duration of the provincial election campaign.
“We understand that the top priorities of Manitobans right now are the cost of living and social services, such as health and homelessness,” MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc said. “We need to work on the quality-of-life issues, to continue to be a great place to live.”
However, Lorenc noted, public services such as health, education and housing are expensive, which means governments require the revenues to sustain and improve those services.
“That revenue comes from economic growth. Manitoba’s trade supports more than half of our GDP and goods and services don’t move if our transportation network isn’t efficient and reliable.”
In addition to the ads, MHCA is running a contest that focuses on some fundamentals of the heavy construction industry’s work. The intent is to dispel some misunderstandings about who chooses what roads to repair or reconstruction, how that work proceeds and budgets are set.
In addition, MHCA has surveyed all three party leaders on their positions surrounding economic growth, infrastructure investment and other provincial priorities.
