A general review of the work of the MTI/industry spec review committee to date was a priority topic of an MHCA Highways Committee discussion with Deputy Minister Ryan Klos December 19.
The Committee sought information on what was considered to be accomplishments, learnings and potential process adjustments for 2025.
“The establishment of the spec review committee with MTI last year was a real step forward and generally the feedback is that industry appreciates the opportunity to hear of planned specification changes, and provide its input,” MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc said.
Much of the discussion with the deputy minister related to the department’s tender advertising schedule. The Committee has been working with MTI senior officials who have provided regular updates of the schedule, in attempt to track its planned rollout through the year.
This is important to tracking the highways capital program, to ensure full expenditure of the $500-million budget for 2024-25.
The meeting also provided a discussion on the 2024 projects regarding scheduling and completion.
