Barrie Daun Brooks brought rigour to MHCA operations

The MHCA has sent condolences to the family of Barrie Brooks, who served on the MHCA Board of Directors from 1993 to 2000.

“Barrie was hugely important to the evolution of both the Board and to operations of the association itself, bringing – especially in his role as secretary-treasurer — rigour to the way the MHCA organized and reported its financial and fiscal operations,” MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc said.

Brooks, who worked with Ladco and the former Borland Construction from 1973 until retiring in 2000, died May 15, in Parksville, British Columbia, where he and his wife moved in 2005. Brooks continued to serve on the Ladco Board of Directors until his death.

“He was very careful, and meticulous, not shy about pointing out areas of disagreement but with kindness and that, I really appreciated in my early days as president of MHCA,” Lorenc added.

Brooks joined the MHCA Board in 1993, serving first as a director, then in succeeding years served as secretary treasurer, Chair of the Highways Committee and Chair of the Finance Committee. He retired from the board in November, 1999.
