The Canadian Construction Association will be sending its members guidance on the advocacy issues it wants to put in front of all the parties, running up to the September 20 election.
“We’re happy to have a national voice, ensuring that infrastructure and the needs of the trade corridors and gateways of the West are front and centre during the federal election campaign,” said Chris Lorenc, President of the MHCA and of the Western Canada Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association.
“The WCR&HCA, with its partners, has compiled a plan for deep investment – through a proposed recapitalization of the federal trade corridors fund – for Western Canada’s trade corridors and gateways,” he explained. “This should be spoken to by all federal party leaders because it is important to the trade profile and productivity of the whole country.”
The CCA has held back on speaking to federal parties and the public about the priorities of the construction industry, waiting for the latter half of the election campaign for greater impact.
The CCA will send it public presentations to all members and local construction associations, for a coordinated effort to gain the attention of the parties, the leaders and candidates.
“We intend to encourage MHCA members to present the need for trade-enabling infrastructure investment to all candidates they meet, to get that on the agenda of all parties,” Lorenc said.
