The Trudeau government has released a request for information from industry and others on the way to reduce the carbon footprint of cement and concrete for federal buildings and infrastructure projects.
The RFI can be viewed here.
“The Government of Canada is considering setting mandatory minimum requirements for the procurement of low carbon concrete,” the RFI released by the Treasury Board Secretariat states. “This RFI seeks feedback to assist in the development of requirements designed to achieve environmental objectives and support a competitive and resilient marketplace.”
This initiative is part of the broader policy adopted by the federal government to reduce the environmental impact of building materials reducing embodied carbon and also to lead in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
