Santa came early and with an added spring in his step this year, for the children at Winnipeg’s David Livingstone School.
MHCA fundraising for this year’s annual Heavy Santa saw $4,100 put to buying the presents, treats and lunch for 105 pupils in Grades 1-4.
On Friday, December 16, each pupil received a gift – such as Hungry Hippo game, talking robot or an electronic drawing board – as a present, and also treat bags filled with snacks, candy and chocolates.
“The kids were so great and couldn’t wait to welcome Santa,” said Kayla Fisher, MHCA Office Administrative Assistant. “They helped Santa find his way to the gymnasium by singing Jingle Bells at the top of their voices.”
Fisher coordinates the purchasing and wrapping of the gifts. A pizza lunch was also served.
This was the first year of Santa’s in-person appearance, welcoming the kids to join him at the front of the room so he could hear what’s on their wish lists this Holiday season. For the last two years, the delivery of gifts was shifted to the school’s doorsteps, due to the pandemic.
The pupils got busy writing thank you cards to MHCA, a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to the fundraising at the association’s Spring Mixer and the Chair’s Gala.
