The MHCA Chair’s Reception, the second of its annual event, drew a crowd of about 200 across industry and partner associations April 5, at the RBC Convention Centre York Ballroom.
The turnout of provincial and municipal elected and senior administration officials was strong, and included addresses from MTI Minister Doyle Piwniuk and Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham.
Piwniuk said his government is committed to investing in Manitoba’s trade corridors, but is also increasing transfers to municipalities to assist with street renewal, having recently announced an additional $7.5 million, as an example, to the City of Winnipeg to help with filling potholes.
Gillingham noted that Winnipeg’s 2023 budget made good on his election campaign promise to proceed with studies for the extension of the Chief Peguis Trail and widening of Kenaston, both critical links in Winnipeg and the Capital Region’s trade transportation network.
“We see from the turnout that the Chair’s Reception is growing in popularity as an annual spring event,” MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc said. “This bodes well for future receptions and MHCA’s engagement with partners at all levels of government and public administration, and with our industry partner associations.”
