MHCA construction management bursaries given to young leaders

Red River College has announced the bursaries sponsored by MHCA have been awarded to two outstanding students.

The 2020 MHCA Cornerstone Award has been awarded to Richard Arpin. The Cornerstone Award was established in 2010 in recognition of MHCA’s Board Chairs. The $2,000 bursary is awarded to a full-time student in any year of the Construction Management Degree Program. Arpin has worked as a survey technician on the Manitoba Hydro Riel Station Convertor project, has training in carpentry and is knowledgeable in survey total stations, GPS rovers and machine control systems.

The MHCA Construction Management Entrance Award was given to Kiara Kerwin. The Entrance Award, a $2,000 bursary established in 2011, goes to a full-time student entering the Construction Management Degree Program. Kerwin, a graduate of College Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, was inspired to enter the construction field by her father, a site superintendent.

“I would like to inspire younger female generations, and show them that there is a ton of opportunity available for them and that the industry is growing and needs more diverse talent to get the job done,” Kerwin said in her award application.

Letters of recommendation submitted by individuals who worked with the two students each noted they had a wide range of interests and demonstrated leadership qualities in their personal relations with others, and an excellent work ethic.
