MHCA is proud to receive a commemorative piece of the concrete barriers that once stood at Portage and Main, presented by MD Steele Construction, who led the landmark intersection re-opening project.
To honour the significance of this historic undertaking and recognize the contributions of the project team and key stakeholders, MD Steele transformed one of the intersection’s iconic concrete barriers into a unique keepsake. Each piece was carefully cut into the outline of the City of Winnipeg, creating a lasting symbol of a project that reshaped one of Canada’s most recognizable intersections.
Designed by local Anishinaabe artist Jordan Stranger, the keepsakes feature one of four original designs representing the four corners of Portage and Main. His artwork reflects the spirit of community, connection to the land, and the shared path forward that the project represents.
MHCA was honoured to receive the Two Rivers keepsake, which celebrates the meeting of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers. The design depicts the splash of a walleye as sage falls to bless the land and the community nearby.
