MHCA submits industry payment issues to MTI

Protracted delays to payment and improper use of holdback funds were highlighted among a list of issues contractors say they are seeing when working on provincial projects.

The MHCA has submitted to Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure a synopsis of difficulties the industry faces with progress and final payments, following a request for detail from the Deputy Minister.

Highlighted challenges include disputes, lack of communication, inconsistency, excessive delays and payment terms, among several others.

Prompt payment rules came into effect on April 1. The provincial government has directed MTI to follow these rules.

MHCA will continue to follow up with MTI on this file.
