New ADM oversees Quarry Rehab Program

The MHCA has requested a meeting with Shannon Kohler, Assistant Deputy Minister of Environment & Climate Change, to discuss oversight of the Quarry Rehabilitation Program (QRP) and the Quarry Rehab Advisory Council (QRAC). Kohler is assuming responsibility for the program, which was recently moved into her department.

Among the topics to be discussed are:

  • Updating rehabilitation plans and standards
  • Program reliability
  • Rolling intake
  • Multi-year contracts

The MHCA, which has played a foundational role in the creation of the QRP, is a stakeholder member of QRAC. Chris Lorenc, President & CEO, is one of two representatives, along with Scott Aikman of Glacial Aggregates, a member of the MHCA, who is co-chair.

The Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) has strongly supported the Quarry Rehabilitation Program (QRP). City of Winnipeg Councillor Jeff Browaty, as AMM’s representative, is now QRAC co-chair.

The MHCA will update its members as this file progresses.
