The goal to have an inner-ring expressway for efficient travel through the city of Winnipeg remains elusive, after more than 55 years.
A 5-kilometre section of the Chief Peguis Trail, opened in 2011, is awaiting completion still, despite being a critical link to the inner ring road first recommended in 1968.
Winnipeg City Council has given the green light to the administration to study the economic case for extending Chief Peguis west, work that is yet to be undertaken.

“The extension of Chief Peguis is such a critical, unfinished link in Winnipeg’s trade transportation network,” MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc said. “The inner ring road is key to relieving traffic pressure from residential streets and easing bottlenecks on transportation arteries that move people to jobs and goods to market.”
