Mines Branch adds clarity to process, contacts for quarry permits

The Manitoba Mines Branch has distributed a one-pager to the MHCA for those applying for quarry and pit permits, which includes detailing the quarry team tasked to work on applications.

All inquiries should be sent to mines_br@gov.mb.ca; the Branch has committed to responding within 1-3 business days if required.

The one-pager provides information on how aggregate contractors can help ensure their applications are filled out correctly and avoids pitfalls that may delay the process.

Among the items noted are:

  • Requesting aggregate amounts in excess of 29,999 tonnes without supporting documentation can slow down the process as it triggers further inquiries
  • Applications for multiple Casual quarry Permits in a small area also raises concerns

Other issues causing delays at the Branch include:

  • Not filing previous returns on Quarry Tenure
  • Submitting incorrect or missing information via online applications and returns
  • Mining out of bounds – a significant number of non-compliances and stop work orders have been triggered due to this issue

The Branch is planning webinars late September and into October to explain the process, including on mapping, online applications/returns, creating/updating iMaQs acct, and exemption certificates.
