New mandate on electronic logging devices in Manitoba

The Government of Manitoba’s Motor Carrier Permits and Development branch is holding open houses to consult with industry on the use of Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) in Manitoba.

Transport Canada is mandating the use of ELDs via the federal Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Services Regulations starting in June 2021. The Manitoba Driver’s Hours of Service Regulation adopts the federal regulation by reference, with some exceptions.

Manitoba will assess how best to respond to the federal regulatory changes. In particular, how should Manitoba apply the federal regulation to carriers who operate only within Manitoba’s borders? We would like your input as we explore possible options and develop a plan for moving forward.

Open house meetings will allow stakeholders to learn more about ELDs and to provide input on how Manitoba should move forward. Please consider participating in one of the following open house meetings:
