The provincial government has declared September 30 – known as Orange Shirt Day – a general holiday, which requires companies in the construction industry to follow rules set out for observing the day and paying employees.

Unlike other general holidays, employers/employees substitute a different day off work, in lieu of September 30.
“Employers may substitute another day for all general holidays except Orange Shirt Day, for the purposes of general holiday pay and wages for hours worked on the day.”
