The Mines Branch has made contact with the contractors who were owed payment for quarry rehabilitation work completed in 2018. The Quarry Rehab Program has been suspended since last year, when an internal review was launched by the department.
The MHCA had asked that the branch inform 10 contractors still owed payment for work as to the status of their invoices or whether issues remained verifying the work done. All but one contactor has had contact with the branch.
The MHCA will continue to monitor the status of the program. The Growth, Enterprise and Trade Department handed the results of the review to the Auditor General earlier this year. The rehabilitation of spent pits and quarries is funded through a per tonne fee aggregate producers pay into a provincially held reserve, which is administered entirely by the department.
