Injuries rise at this time of the year

STAYING IN TOUCH: JACQUELYN ODURO

Fall is an excellent time of year to remind our industry that injury data shows consistent seasonal trends. In the construction industry, injuries rise and peak at the end of summer and into the fall months, as the construction season comes to a close. Research shows that injuries in heavy construction peak in the last weeks of October.

We at MHCA WorkSafely would like to remind our industry to be diligent during this busy season. It is essential to take the time to review, implement, and reinforce safe-work practices with workers.

Musculoskeletal Injuries (MSIs) like sprains, strains and tears are the most common injuries. Fall brings more precipitation, raising the likelihood of slips, trips and falls.  The back and spine most commonly see injuries, likely from slips and trips or stress from lifting, pushing or pulling.

Take time to review safe-work practices and procedures to reduce the number of time-loss injuries that may last beyond the construction season. For more information, visit our website or contact your safety advisor.
