Today, we launch the annual SafeRoads campaign, a critical initiative aimed at protecting lives by emphasizing the importance of adhering to road safety rules, especially near work zones. The SafeRoads campaign is not just about compliance — it’s about respect and responsibility.
Speed limits are lower in designated construction zones, whether or not workers are present, and the fine for speeding is double the cost of a regular ticket.
Under the Highway Traffic Act, drivers passing by a roadside emergency vehicle must move to the farthest lane from the scene whenever possible, and adhere to reduced speed limits: 40 km/h when the posted speed limit is below 79 km/h, and 60 km/h when the posted speed limit is 80 km/h or higher.
Every time you drive through a construction zone or past an emergency responder at work, you are in a position to either protect or endanger a life. Choose to protect.
