Workplace injuries don’t happen at an even rate through the year. In fact, studies done in the heavy construction field show injuries tend to rise in the late summer and into the fall, as the construction season comes to an end.
We want to remind our industry to take care during this busy season, stressing the importance of safe-work practices and procedures to avoid injury.
According to studies conducted by the Manitoba Workers Compensation Board, the most common work-related injuries during this hectic season are commonly caused by slips, trips, lifting, pushing and pulling. Looking deeper into specific sprain/strain incidents, reports shows that the back, leg and ankle are injured most frequently.
Safety is of paramount importance all year, but it is critical to address hazards during construction’s busiest time. Our Heavy News Weekly includes a safety talk that has tips and tricks on preventing sprain/strain injuries and much more.
