STAYING IN TOUCH: JACQUELYN ODURO
As spring arrives in Manitoba, the snow melts continue regularly on our roads. The roads for the time being will remain slick and potholes will continue to appear for the coming weeks. While environmental hazards pose a constant risk, it is important to take the time to stop and think before heading out on the roads to remain alert and have a safe trip, which now more than ever can include distractions.
To help avoid distracted driving:
- Know your route ahead of time and plan for any detours or delays
- Know the weather and road conditions ahead to plan accordingly
- Do not eat, drink, or perform other tasks with hands off the wheel
- Set an outgoing message on your smart device that you are driving and cannot answer
- If you do have to use your smart device ensure, it is connected to use hands free
- Should you have to take a call, pull over to a safe area first
- Stay relaxed and alert to adapt to any situations that may arise
- Keep your vehicle clean to avoid items moving around or shifting
While we wait for the clear roads of summer, take care and stay safe for all road users.
