The MHCA will present its suggestions regarding the draft framework for a social procurement policy at Winnipeg Council’s Executive Policy Committee November 17.
“We are engaged with the Social Procurement Working Group established to develop the social procurement framework and a detailed action plan, to ensure the policy’s success,” MHCA President Chris Lorenc said.
The draft framework from Administration was sent to the representative organizations in the working group on November 3rd, with requests that comments about significant concerns be returned by the end of day, November 4th.
Lorenc said the MHCA has had discussions with other members of the working group and it is hoped that the full group will have the opportunity to give its input to the framework, prior to its eventual consideration by Council.
“We are fully committed to seeing a strong social procurement policy and program that sees social equity groups and the Indigenous community share in the benefits of the City of Winnipeg’s procurement practices and capacity,” Lorenc stressed.
“My sense is that representatives in the group, drawn from industry and social enterprise organizations, are intent on getting this right, to ensure adopted practices are meaningful, productive and measurable and can be built over time into a robust action plan and program.”
