Three Winnipeg tenders now piloting social procurement clauses

The City of Winnipeg has issued three tenders that include social procurement clauses, to pilot requirements for hiring as part of its social procurement action plan.

The plan has been in the works since 2021 and is now in the process of working requirements into construction tenders.

The three listed to date on Merx related to reporting employment hours of workers who identify among a number of communities defined as “equity” groups. The tenders – a water drinking station, water main renewals and the Renfrew outfall gate chambers, can be found here.

MHCA is asking any contractor bidding on the pilot projects to contact the association with comments or suggestions regarding the tender bidding and award process. It is especially important to hear the views of the contract award winner.

The MHCA is working with the City of Winnipeg to refine the action plan’s requirements before they are made permanent features of the tendering process.

Should you have suggestions or concerns, please contact MHCA Manager of Policy and Communications, Catherine Mitchell at catherine@mhca.mb.ca or MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc at clorenc@mhca.mb.ca
