Changes to allowable highways vehicle weights and dimensions coming

MTI’s Motor Carrier Safety & Permits division is receiving public comments on amendments proposed to the Vehicle Weights and Dimensions on Classes of Highways Regulation.

The proposed changes are to align Manitoba’s requirements for overweight and over-dimensional vehicles and loads with national agreements. The proposed changes would also increase the visibility of over-dimensional loads, which will enhance safety for all road users.

Among the changes are:

  • Corrections from the 2018 amendment in 2018 for truck tractor wheelbase limitations.
  • Additional weight allowance is being added for auxilliary power units
  • Definition of Sunrise and Sunset are being added
  • Additional clauses being added after Section 41 in regards to warning lamps on over-dimensional vehicles
  • A clause is being added to subsection 42(3) to indicate that pilot vehicles cannot carry/transport cargo other than the equipment required by the pilot vehicle.
  • Several highways are being reclassified in the regulation.

The proposed amendments can be found by clicking the link below. Comments can be added by clicking the button on the upper right of the page.
