City of Winnipeg holds seminar on sustainable procurement requirements

The City of Winnipeg is hosting an online training seminar for the construction industry, to explain how firms replying to RFPs will have to fill out a questionnaire on their social and environmental procurement policies and practices.

Two dates are offered to take part in the Microsoft Teams seminar:

  • September 20, at 11 am to 12:30
  • September 27, at 11 am to 12:30

This training will explain the questionnaires, to be included in various Request for Proposals for Goods and Services, and how to fill them out correctly.

The City will also be recording the Microsoft Teams training sessions and posting on its website for those who cannot make these times.

“We strongly encourage industry members to take part in the seminars,” MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc said. “While the RFP process may not directly apply to heavy civil tenders, the questions asked indicate the requirements contractors eventually will also be expected to fulfill in roadbuilding and sewer & water tenders.”

Lorenc said not only is it important for the industry to understand the implications of the City’s social and environmental procurement plans, but to let the City hear contractor concerns regarding the implementation of the requirements.
