Hurst retiring from MHCA’s WORKSAFELY® Education and Training

Don Hurst, MHCA’s Director of WORKSAFELY® Education and Training, has announced he is retiring at the end of 2023.

“We are really saddened to lose Don, who has been an astute and insightful leader, guiding the WORKSAFELY® team in the delivery of our industry’s safety and health program now for eight years,” MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc said. Lorenc shared news of Hurst’s plans to retire in December, to MHCA staff and Board of Directors.

Prior to joining MHCA in 2015, Hurst, who holds an MA in Economics, served as Manitoba’s chief prevention officer, ADM Workplace Safety and Health, in Treasury Board and, at the federal level, as a tax policy analyst in the Finance Department.

“Don has been a pillar of strength and support to all of us since joining the MHCA as Director WORKSAFELY Program on April 19, 2015,” Lorenc said.  “I will miss his astute and strategic leadership, the relationship of respect and kinship we have, and I know staff will echo my regret in seeing Don leave.”

Hurst has earned the deep respect of all within the industry, in provincial offices and with his colleagues at our stakeholder partner associations, Lorenc added.

“On behalf of the Board, staff and membership, I sincerely thank Don for his stellar service, friendship and abiding support for companies in this industry. We wish he and his wife Karen well as they begin their new journey in life. We will miss his insight, compassionate management and ever-present good humour.”
