MHCA salutes long-serving board member and past Chair Henry Borger

The MHCA paid special tribute to Henry Borger, president of Borland Construction, at its 2021 annual Awards Presentation and AGM Thursday, November 18, 2021.

Borger has announced his retirement from the Board, effective 2022.

MHCA Chair Nicole Chabot noted Borger’s many years of service and his dedication to the association and the heavy construction industry.

“We are sad to see Henry leave the Board – I think everyone here and certainly anyone who has had the opportunity to sit at the Board table with Henry will share in that sentiment.”

Borger served the MHCA and the industry “commendably and with distinction” for 17 years, joining the Board of Directors in 2004, Chabot said.

His record of engagement with the MHCA and at the national level with the Canadian Construction Association includes:

  • Member, MHCA Board of Directors from 2004-2021
  • Chair, MHCA Board of Directors, 2013 and 2014
  • Treasurer, MHCA Board of Directors, 2008-2010
  • Chair, City of Winnipeg Committee, 2006/2007, and again 2016/2017
  • Secretary Treasurer of WCR&HCA – 2013-2017
  • CCA Board member 2012-2020, including 2016-2020 – Executive Committee and Chair of Civil Infrastructure Council

“Beyond the distinction of those positions, Henry’s voice was heard, and his astute advice noted, at any meeting among industry representatives and especially in discussions in senior political offices at all government levels,” Chabot added.

MHCA President Chris Lorenc said he was especially grateful for having worked with, and learned from, Borger over the years.

“We – and in particular I, as President – are in Henry’s debt and will sorely miss his leadership and dedication to the association and the heavy construction industry,” Lorenc said.

From all of your Board colleagues and the MHCA members and staff, Henry: A sincere thank you and best wishes.
