Nelson River Construction celebrates 100 years of success

Nelson River Construction President Gord Lee at NRC’s 100th anniversary reception Oct. 5, 2023

MHCA Board Chair Dennis Cruise congratulated Nelson River Construction on 100 years of leadership and success at a reception NRC held October 5, 2023.

“Nelson River is a giant in our industry,” Cruise said, during an address at the reception. “You cast a very long, impressive shadow across our industry’s history, profile and accomplishments. We’re all impressed with Nelson River’s growth, achievements and reputation.”

He noted that NRC’s success has led it to build infrastructure projects in all reaches of Canada, and, remarkably, has been led by a succession of father-son presidents through its years.

Nelson River President Gord Lee followed in the footsteps of his father, Chuck Lee, who succeeded Frank Fowler and his father F. Scott Fowler. All four NRC leaders have served a term as Chair of the MHCA Board of Directors.

In his address, Lee spoke about the early days when NRC actually designed and built some of the roadbuilding equipment necessary to successfully bid and complete heavy construction projects. Mid-century, he noted, NRC had branch offices in Toronto and Montreal.

“We are all so very proud of the respected, proud history of Nelson River Construction in our province,” MHCA President Chris Lorenc said.

“It is one of a handful of big hitters in our industry that have broken trail for the rest, in terms of business acumen, company growth, expansion of scope and ability to travel afar to break, or pave, ground.”
