Retiring Military Personnel Looking for Careers

The MHCA Workforce Development Committee (WDC) invited the Canadian Forces Transition Centre to a recent committee meeting, to discuss potential partnerships for recruiting individuals interested in working in the heavy construction industry

The Canadian Forces Transition Centre assists retiring military personnel to find jobs upon the return to civilian life after retirement.  Over 300 military personnel are retiring annually with varied skills related to the heavy construction industry. They are retiring from Winnipeg, Shilo, Moosejaw and Saskatoon.

The Centre’s Ronald Francis and Kennedy Arnold spoke to the Committee about recruitment opportunities for retiring military personnel.

Companies can tap into these resources by registering https://military-transition.canada.ca/en/submit-organization with the Military Transition Engagement & Partnership Program (MTEP).

The Committee heard that the program’s goal is to help military personnel find purpose in a career. The program allows military personnel to see the opportunities offered by potential employers and consider applying.

Another useful initiative is the Military Spousal Employment Initiative https://msen.vfairs.com/, which seeks to help spouses of military personnel find work. The program recognizes spouses often face challenges maintaining meaningful employment due to the frequent relocation of military personnel

The Committee will explore these options and others to determine how they can better attract individuals to the heavy construction industry.
