Wildlife rehabilitation organization needs a new home

PWRC looking to relocate in spent pit, quarry near Winnipeg

The Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is in need of a new home, and is hoping to connect with owners of spent pits and quarries, in hopes of relocating to the right space.

The PWRC, established in 2007, is a non-profit registered charity whose main goal is to treat injured and orphaned wildlife and to successfully release them back into their natural habitat. In 2020, PWRC has cared for over 2,000 wildlife patients.

PWRC provides an essential service to the city of Winnipeg, and surrounding areas, answering wildlife calls, rescuing injured wildlife and work in partnership with Animal Services Agency and Sustainable Development to assist Manitoba’s wildlife.

PWRC currently operates from a seasonal site in St. Adolphe, Manitoba, vacating the property each winter due to flooding each spring. PWRC has approached the MHCA in hopes to find a permanent property that could be utilized all year round for wildlife patient care, education and community engagement.

PWRC is interested in spent gravel pits, quarries or additional property, minimum site characteristics include; partially treed lot, close proximity to Hydro lines, gravel road access and, in order to accommodate staff and volunteers, the location would need to be maximum 45 minutes from Winnipeg.

Please note that PWRC would also be prepared to enter into a lease agreement.
