Winnipeg gets advisory group on goods movement

The Goods Movement Advisory Group will advise City Council’s Public Works Committee and the director of the Public Works department, as laid out in the group’s terms of reference.

The terms of reference, to be reviewed at the Public Works Committee October 10, stress the importance of efficient movement of goods to the sustainability and resilience of the economy.

The group will deliver key advice to the Public Works director and will report its advice to the Public Works Committee at least once per year.

The vision of the group is to promote recognition of “the important economic role of goods movement to Winnipeg and the provincial economies through a safe, efficient, environmentally sustainable, and connective goods movement network that supports key trade assets.”

“It is critical that in planning land use and transportation policies and program, that the critical role played by our trade corridors, especially, is recognized so that such planning rolls out strategically with an eye to future development and economic growth,” MHCA President & CEO Chris Lorenc said.

Lorenc is a member of the group, representing MHCA. Other members of the GMAC include the Public Works director, Public Works transportation manager and representatives of Manitoba Trucking Association, Winnipeg Airports Authority, CN Rail & CPKC Rail, and the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters-MB.
